Obituary

Mary Lou Dick Obituary Mary Lou K. Dick, age 76, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Born June 17, 1945, in Willard, to the late Wilbur and Mildred (Curns) Klopfenstein, Mary Lou was a 1963 graduate of Buckeye Central High School and had been a Shelby resident for 57 years. She was a member of the Friendly Mother's Club, Tiro United Methodist Church, Hazel Grove Ladies Aid, and three Farm Bureau Advisor Councils. Mary Lou married her high school sweetheart, Duane Dick, on March 14, 1965, and he survives in Shelby. She considered it her greatest blessing that she was chosen by God to bear two sons, John (Lori) Dick and Alan (Darlene) Dick, both of Shelby. Her greatest achievement was that, with help and wisdom from God, and the power of the wooden spoon, she raised them into fine young men. Additional survivors include her grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Ryan, Laura, Katie, and Kelsey; a sister, Nancy J. (Don Barrett) Reed of Port Clinton; two brothers, Don 'Stein' (Jeri) Klopfenstein of Hilliard, and Paul 'Lunar' (Becky) Klopfenstein of Plymouth; two sisters-in-law, Anita Dierkes of Fremont, Indiana, and Eleanor Lillo of Shelby; and a brother-in-law, Vance (Sallee) Dick of Devlin, Ontario, Canada, and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Florence E. Dick; a sister-in-law, Vivian Law; and a brother-in-law, Jack Dierkes. Mary Lou, the matriarch of Cherwood Farms, thought of many past and present employees as family. They considered her family as well, appreciating her and her legendary cooking. Her most requested dishes included hamloaf, corn casserole, and potato salad. In addition to feeding the farm crew she kept the financial records and helped in other ways as needed. She was an avid reader, and her other hobbies included a variety of crafting skills, crossword and sudoku puzzles, and collecting teddy bears, Precious Teddy figurines, cows, and all things purple. Mary Lou had an uncomplicated faith, "Jesus loves me, and I love Him." She was a true believer in the power of prayer. She was blessed to have a multitude of churches and individuals praying for her. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to you all. You are invited to attend a celebration of Mary Lou's life and her love for bears on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
