Mary J. Risner, age 104, resident of Crestwood Care Center, Shelby passed away Monday January 1, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Born April 8, 1913 in Prestonburg, Kentucky to Earl and Cummine (Shepherd) Joseph. She had been a Shelby resident since 1966. Mary was a homemaker most of her life. She loved to garden & make homemade jelly to give to family & friends. She always was ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She had a great sense of humor & her beautiful smile will be greatly missed. Mary had a way of taking a situation and making up a little song to sing just to make you smile. Mary was the most content when she was busy or just being with her family. She is survived by five daughters, Carrie Kilgore of Mt. Dora, Fla., Jean Stidam of Shelby, Mary Ann ( Glen) Alsept of Shelby, Shirley Davis of Norwalk, OH, Kathy (Ed) Hatch of Shelby; three sons, Paul Risner of Duluth, Minnesota; Goble Risner of Albion, MI, Harold Keith Risner of Shelby; 33 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Earl Risner in 1966; brother Everett Joseph; sisters Addie Mckenzie, Grace Miller, Odie Younglove, Nora Bailey, Lou Lockwood, Thelma Goodrich and Elsie Luokknen; son-in-laws Arvel Stidam and Harry Kilgore; granddaughter Tracy Risner and grandson Keith Risner. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday January 6, 2018 from the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory. Reverend Bill Howell of the Messiah House of Prayer will officiate with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Saturday. Memorial expressions may be made to Shelby Help Line Ministries and Hospice of NCO.
