Obituary

Mavis Wallace Obituary Mavis P. Wallace, age 85, resident of New Market, Alabama passed away peacefully on February 6, 2022 at Helens Place Assisted Living Facility in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born on September 7, 1936 in Castlewood, Virginia to the late John C and Sallie Ann (Sexton) Lucas. Mavis worked for the Federal Government at the former New Cumberland Army Depot, Pennsylvania. In 1987, as the Chief of the Depot Property Division, she retired after 32 years of service. Mavis also holds the depot record of 27 consecutive years of not using any sick leave at the installation. She enjoyed reading, knitting, watching Americas favorite past time (baseball), gardening, and arguably making the best homemade salsa around, but most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. A true lady, Mavis always carried herself with a remarkable amount of dignity, grace, and a hardworking ethic. Mavis is survived by her son, Gary (Linda) Wallace of New Market; granddaughter Abigail (David) Burke of New Market; grandson Christopher (Kim) Wallace of Meridianville, AL; and great granddaughter Kennedy Michelle Wallace. In addition to her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles F. Wallace; two brothers Paul and Carl Lucas; and three sisters, Charlotte Smith, Drusilla "Peachy" Hale, and Christine Niedermeier. The family would like to give special recognition to Kendra and Victoria at Helens Place for providing outstanding patient care during Mavis final months. Special recognition goes to Blenda, Shirley, and Miss Lizzy of In Good Hands Home Health Care for the in-home care they provided prior to Mavis move to Helens Place.
