Phyllis I. Hadley, age 71, resident of Shelby died Friday September 9, 2016 at Ohio Health Shelby Hospital. Born July 22, 1945 in Marion, Ohio to Charles Edwin and Mabel Louise (Malone) Shirley she had been a Shelby resident for the past fifty years. A 1963 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School, she was formerly employed with North Electric in Galion. Phyllis was then employed for over twenty years as office manager with the State Farm Insurance Agency in Shelby.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a local mothers club.
Phyllis was selfless mom and homemaker who loved the outdoors, tending to her flowers and baking. Her family was of utmost importance and she was a proud follower of her children and grandchildren's extracurricular activities.
Survivors include her husband of fifty years Thomas D. Hadley, whom she married July 2, 1966; two children, Scott (Erin) Hadley of Bellville and Cheryl (John) Gies of Shelby; five grandchildren, Alex, Rachel and Lindsey Gies and Grant and Mehghan Hadley; one brother Bob (Sue) Shirley of New Washington; one niece Brandi (Breck) Neer of Trenton, N.C.; special uncle Melvin Eugene Shirley of Mt. Gilead and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday September 13, 2016 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Rev. David S. Sipes will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
