Roger Ray Furney, age 76 of Shelby, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, at The Willows in Willard, Ohio.

Born January 21, 1949, in Sandusky, Ohio to Ray and Florence (Kahler) Furney, he had been a Shelby resident for the majority of his life. A 1968 graduate of Shelby High School, Roger had been employed with the Shelby Police Department for 26 years, retiring in December 1996 and received Officer of the Year during his career.

He was member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Shelby Fraternal Order of Police #180. Roger enjoyed being outdoors, hunting deer or fishing. Roger loved to travel, especially visiting the Smokey Mountains, Branson, Missouri or the Outer Banks. He always looked forward to the family trips to Lake Erie, Cedar Point and Kings Island. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those who will cherish his memories include his wife, of 51 years, Linda (Gwirtz) Furney, whom he married on September 22, 1973; their three children, Brenda (Mike) Culpepper of Vermilion, Ohio, Grant Furney of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and Amanda (Joe) Bardon of Bucyrus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Stormy, Koby, and Evelyn; his great grandchildren Xavier and Sophie: and his nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Kathy Ann Furney and sister Wanda Jean Metzger.

Family and friends may come to honor Roger's life Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. A funeral service will take place at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment held in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Shelby.

In place of flowers, a memorial contribution may be given in his memory to the Stein Hospice at 1912 Hayes Ave. Sandusky, OH 44870.
