Ross K. Loughman, Sr., age 90, resident of Park Village, Shelby, died Friday, December 11, 2009 at Hospice House in Ashland, Ohio.
Born September 6, 1919 in Mansfield to Ray and Alice (Rickner) Loughman he had been a Shelby-Plymouth area resident the majority of his life. A graduate of Mansfield Sr. High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the 140th Field Artillery of the 37th Division in the Pacific and European theaters during WWII. Following his discharge, he became a member of the 179th Air National Guard.
Mr. Loughman retired from the Mansfield Tire Co. in 1978 and retired from Shelby Standard Tube in 1992. He was a life member of the 37th Division and a member of the Shelby VFW. Ross enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, collecting stamps and coins, and cherished spending time with his famly. He was fondly known as "Boppa" by his loving grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Illene (Caugherty) Loughman, whom he wed April 6, 1947; his children, Linda Miller, Alice (Larry) Webb, and Ross Loughman, Jr., all of Shelby; four grandchildren, Bobbi Webb, Nathan Miller, Tim Loughman and Jennifer Loughman; three great grandchildren, Keith Combs, Jadin and Aleah Anderson; his brother, William (Peggy) Loughman of Cape Coral, Florida, sister-in-law, Betty Loughman of Mansfield, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kitridge and George Loughman and his son-in-law, Bert Miller.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Gloria Loughman, his niece, will officiate with interment in Mansfield Memorial Park. Calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to the Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Dr., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
