Shirley M. Bissell, age 79, formerly of Myers Meadow in Shelby, died Friday, May 6, 2011 in Galion Pointe Nursing Home.
Born April 20, 1932 in Cleveland to Carmi and Charlene (Gallagher) Worthington she had been a Shelby resident from 1956 to 2008. Shirley was employed as an art teacher with St. Mary's elementary school, retiring in 2008.
She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, the Altar Rosary Society and was a Eucharistic distributer for over 20 years. An accomplished artist, she enjoyed sketching portraits and teaching art to the children.
Survivors include her children, Gay (David) Wright of Virginia Beach, Va., Kim Steele of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Kip (Mike) Studer of Tiro; John Bissell of Ashland, Jan (Doug) Frazee, of Tucson, Az., and James Bissell of Tucson, Az., 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Clark of Galion and Janet (Bob) Valentyn of Meadford, Mass; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, May 12, 2011 in Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery with Fr. Nicholas Cunningham officiating. A Mass in Shirley's name will be said at a later date.
