Stephen Young Obituary Stephen A. Young, age 82, resident of Shelby, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Willows of Willard Nursing Facility, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 10, 1942 in Shelby to Albert and Helen (Heydinger) Young, he had been a lifelong Shelby resident. A 1960 graduate of Shelby High School, Steve had been employed as a salesman and delivery driver with the Pepsi Cola Company for 42 years, until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Shelby Senior Center and a lifetime member of the Shelby Moose Lodge #422. Steve loved his community and enjoyed volunteering his time for the Shelby Helpline Ministries and Shelby Little League. He spent numerous years serving on the Senior Center and Park Village Boards, and helped with the annual Shelby Fishing Derby. Steve also enjoyed his morning walks, playing Euchre and Cornhole, and attending different sporting events.
He is survived by his two daughters, Annette (Amy) Keene of Willard, Amy (Charles) Miller of Goose Creek, SC; two grandchildren Audrey and Aaron Pfahler; four siblings William (Diane) Young of Shelby, Janet Bishop of Mansfield, Donna Riehl of Shelby and James (Joan) Young of Longs, SC; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Carol Young in 2012; mother and father-in-law Mary and Bruce Johnson; four brothers-in-law Ken Bishop, David Riehl, George Hartz and Calvin Dietz; two sisters-in-law Trudy Hartz and Connie Dietz and a nephew Todd Riehl.
Friends may visit the family at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. A prayer service will take place immediately following at 7:00PM. A funeral mass will be held Friday, 10:30 AM at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shelby Helpline Ministries at 29 1/2 Walnut St, Shelby, OH 44875.
