Obituary

Stuart Roberts Obituary Stuart Lee Roberts, age 81, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Stuart was born November 18, 1942, in Orrville, Ohio, to the late John A. and Wanda C. (Breeze) Roberts-Sanborn. He graduated from New Straitsville High School in the class of 1960. Following graduation, he served our country in the United States Army from August 10,1960, to August 9,1963. Not long after his service, he met the love of his life, Helen Call, and they were married on March 21,1964. Together they decided to settle down and start their family in Shelby, where they have resided since the 1960's. Stuart and Helen recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family this year. After serving in the Army, Stuart worked for General Motors in Ontario, where he was employed there for 36 years, until his retirement in 1999. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 549, as well as a member of Woody Ridge Golf Course, and the Shelby American Legion O'Brian Post 326. He served as the District #7 Administrator for Little League and enjoyed umpiring for 30 years. Stuart was fortunate to be chosen to umpire at the Junior League World Series and was very proud of that accomplishment. He also worked the discus circle for the Shelby Whippet Track team for over 30 years. Stuart was a man of simple means. Some of his favorite things to do included playing golf at Woody Ridge, passing out candy during trick-or-treat, traveling with his wife and family, and going to family reunions. Stuart was an avid Shelby Whippet fan, routinely attending sporting and music events. He was thrilled to be able to watch the 2024 Whippet football season opener against Madison and enjoyed their win. After his retirement from GM, Stuart's granddaughters became his world. He absolutely cherished them and was their biggest fans in life. He became the family videographer, capturing all of their special moments from their extracurricular's, including sporting events, music activities, and family fun. His granddaughters are left with many fond memories with him and Helen, including going to Amish country, Kingwood Center, the Playscape, and the Richland Carrousel Park. He will be missed tremendously by family, friends and all who had the opportunity to know him. He is survived by his wife, Helen A. (Call) Roberts; his children, Michael (Paula Ormes) Roberts of Springboro, Ohio and Catherine (Michael) Uplinger of Shelby, Ohio; his grandchildren, Allison (Michael) Grau, Alexis (Fianc Brian Ortoski) Uplinger, Arica Uplinger, and Rachel Roberts; his siblings: Lynn (Charlotte) Roberts of Logan, Ohio, Mike (Linda) Roberts of Shawnee, Ohio and Gale (Jerry) Tucker of Shawnee, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Stuart was preceded in death by his dad, John A. Roberts; his mother, Wanda C. (Breeze) Roberts-Sanborn; stepfather Wilbur 'Peck' Sanborn; and his brother, John Roberts.
