Alice Faye Cassity

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Alice Faye (Porter) Cassity, age 74, passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2019 at her home in Lakeland, Florida. Alice was born on October 25th, 1944 to Virgil and Lucinda (Queen) Porter in Genoa, Wayne, West Virginia. She lived most of her life in Shelby, Ohio and retired to Florida with her husband of 50 years, Ralph. While living in Shelby, she worked at Bowshers Bakery and later owned her own businesses, including Alice's Bake Shoppe. She enjoyed serving people in her restaurant and making cakes with her husband for the special occasions people were celebrating in her community. One of her greatest passions was hosting Christmas parties for children with disabilities; she loved seeing the pure joy on their faces. Alice was a well-loved member of her community and she had many close friendships that she cherished. It is difficult to put into words what her family and friends meant to her.

She also loved to travel with her husband, family, and friends. Some of her favorite places included traveling to the Great Smokey Mountains, St. Simon's Island to visit her granddaughter Codie, to Maryland visiting dear friends and traveling to Hawaii to visit her daughter Kim.

She is survived by her children: Crystal (Gene) Taylor, Kim (Jeff) Strubhar, Steve (Cathy) Smith, and Roger Cassity; Grandchildren: Ben Cassity, Tara Smith (Ariane Manley), Ashlee (David) Lamb, Phillip Knapp, Logan (Christina) Strubhar, Austin Strubhar (Nichole Monroe), Codie Sholaya, Tiffany Smith, Amanda Wittel, and Maxx Smith; Great Grandchildren: Selah Lamb, Isaiah Lamb, Micah Lamb, Callah Lamb, Emma Williams, and Dakota Strubhar; as well as other family: brother Michael (Cheryl) Porter, Sister-in-laws Patsy Porter, Shirley Porter, Marilyn Cornette, and Sue Cassity, Brother-in-laws Col. Bob Cassity, and Jerry (Bev) Cassity, several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Lucinda Porter, her beloved husband of 50 years, Ralph Cassity, sister Martha Ann Pocius, brothers Virgil "Junie" Porter, Wendell Porter, Bernard "Bernie" Porter, and sister-in-law Shirley Cassity.

Friends and family may call at the Barkdull  Funeral Home and Crematory Tuesday July 2, 2019  from 12:00 to 1:00 PM with the funeral service following immediately at 1:00 pm. Pastor Travis McKenzie will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
