Born August 25, 1931 in Shelby to Arthur "Dewey" and Florence (Hopkins) Hamman, he had been a Shiloh area resident the majority of his life. He was a 1949 graduate of Shiloh High School where he was the class Salutatorian. During his time at Shiloh High School, Arthur was chosen to attend the American Legion's Buckeye Boys State. He later served in 72nd Tank Battalion with the United States Army where he won an award for fixing tanks. Arthur was employed with General Motors for 15 years before he accepted his call to ministry. He had founded the Community Gospel Chapel and later was Pastor at Wesleyan churches, first in Mansfield, then Rittman and eventually Conesville where he retired before moving back to Shiloh. Arthur loved studying, especially the Bible, working on the family farm, and fixing anything he could. Pastor Art loved people and shared God's word to others for 50 years as an Ordained Minister. Following his retirement he was employed as a courier with the Shelby Daily Globe, working until the age of 83.
