Betty Donnenwirth, age 86, passed away June 15, 2021 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
Born December 13, 1934 to Charles and Bernice (Eberhard) Donley in Tiffin, Ohio, she had been a resident of Shelby since the 7th grade. A 1953 graduate of Shelby High School, she began working at the Shelby Sales Book in the advertising department her senior year. Betty was also employed at the Shelby Cycle and AMF as a secretary and bank balancer at Computer Services. She eventually retired from the Shelby Police Department after 27 years of service. As the first dispatcher hired in Shelby, she had worked under three chiefs during her career.
Betty loved traveling to different places, especially out west and to the tropics. She went on her first cruise with seven of her classmates to celebrate their 50th class reunion. She enjoyed vacationing to Myrtle Beach and Homosassa, Florida yearly.
She was an animal lover and had a special interest in horses. Betty belonged to the Circle S Riding Club. She loved riding, Poco, a Morgan/Quarter horse in shows and parades.
Betty was an active member of the First Christian Church. She taught junior church, was a deacon, and helped with church breakfasts.
She is survived by her brother Dick (Nola) Donley of Indiana; her three sons Richard Stiving of Divide, Colorado, Randall Stiving of Shelby, Desmond (Lori) Donnenwirth of Shelby; two grandsons Blake Stiving of Shelby and Shane Stiving of Colorado; two step grandchildren Heath (Deana) Payne of Lexington and Lauren (Brad) Dennis of Shelby; great granddaughter Megan Stiving of Colorado; step great granddaughter Gracie Lane Dennis; step great grandsons Austin Payne and Baker Dennis; a great great granddaughter Elena Grace Stiving of Colorado; and a very dear, special friend Janice Cooper.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother Robert Donley and her beloved Bichon Frise, Lily.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Funeral Services will immediately follow calling hours at 12:00pm. Chaplain Phillip Green will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery.
