Billie Jean Smith, age 87, resident of Shelby died on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Mill Creek Nursing Home in Galion.
Born on September 11, 1934 in Crandon, Wisconsin to Russel H. and Opal Mae (Hall) Johnson, she had been a rural Shelby resident the majority of her life. She was proud of her role as a homemaker for her husband and children. Billie Jean was an active member of the Taylortown Community Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and reading books. Billie loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters, Coleen E. (Roger) Parks of Shelby, Lois O. Smith of Mansfield, Louise D. (Rory) Burgin of Galion; grandchildren, Brian, Brandi, Brittany, Tammie, and Kristi; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers Sidney (Jan) Johnson and George (Janice) Johnson both of Washington State; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Eugene "Blackie" Smith who passed away May 8, 2019; two sisters Anne Bond and Edna Boggs; and two brothers Robert Johnson and Clyde Johnson.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Monday, September 27, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Doug Tackett officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
