Carol E. Clay, age 87, passed away on April 13, 2024, after a brief illness. Carol was born on March 13, 1937, to Ray O. Lutz and Ethel J. (Wagaman) Lutz in Mansfield, Ohio, where she resided in the area all her life.
She was a bookkeeper for 43 years of her life, retiring from Mansfield Correctional Institute in 1998, her last employment of 19 years. In her free time, Carol, a kind and generous soul, loved shopping, sewing, quilting, and perch fishing. She loved being with her friends and family, dancing, country and gospel music, traveling, canning fruits and vegetables, puzzles, cooking, adult coloring books, and scrap booking.
Carol received God's free gift of salvation in 1986 and will dwell in Heaven with her Lord and Savior for eternity.
Survivors include her son; Gary Lee Jones of Mansfield; one grandson, Kyle Jones of Bellville, Her first husband of 30 years; Kenneth Jones of Bellville, three nieces; Susan Ault of Galion, Rhonda (Rich) Rushlow of Galion, Melinda (Fred) Greter of Crestline, one nephew; Dennis (Kathy) Dill of Galion, seven great nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ethel Lutz; her sister Janet Dill in 2023, her second husband; Mitchell C. Clay in 2002 whom she married February 14, 1993, and her two step-stepsons David Clay in 2015 and Danny Clay in 2023.
Friends may visit at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM. Pastor Dan Peterson will officiate with interment held in Adario Cemetery in Shiloh, Ohio.
