Charles "Chuck" Kovach, age 94, passed away Friday May 5, 2023 at his residence in Shelby surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 4, 1929 in Wilpen, Pennsylvania to Mike and Sophia (Esaak) Kovach, he had been a Shelby resident since 1969. A veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict, he returned home and worked as a supervisor for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co for 35 years until his retirement. Chuck was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 763, the American Legion Post #326, Shelby VFW and the Shelby Owls.
Survivors include his children, Mike (Deb) Kovach of Shelby, William (Diana) Kovach of Shelby and Cathy (Robert) Wolfgang of Shelby; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Catherine (Seybold) Kovach, one sister, Ann Moyer; and four brothers, John, William, Mike and George Kovach, and one infant great-great grandchild.
Friends may visit at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM Sunday, May 7, 2023. A Prisagion Prayer Service will be held at 4:30 PM. Additional visitation will be held Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 11:00 AM. Reverend Father Michael Ellis will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery.
