Cortland E. Hepner, age 90, a resident Ontario and former Shelby resident, died unexpectedly Friday, May 22, 2020 in Avita Health Emergency Room in Ontario.
Born June 29, 1929 in Shelby to Russell J. and Mabel Mae (Snyder) Hepner he had been a lifelong Shelby resident. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1947 and from Ashland College in 1957. He served in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hepner retired from IBM Corporation after 30 years in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Junior Order Lodge and the American Legion O'Brien Post #326. He enjoyed model airplanes and computer games.
Survivors include his daughter, Julie (Michael) Austen of Ontario; two grandchildren, Ashley (Austin) Miller of Lexington and Kaylin (Steve) Lowery of Medina; four great-grandchildren Max and Pearl Miller and Evelyn and Emmett Lowery; one brother, Russell (Stephany) Hepner, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Hepner in 1986, his second wife, Virginia Hepner in 2002 and one son, Brad Hepner in 2000.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 28, 2020 at the Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Reverend JR Harvey from the First Methodist Church will officiate.
