David Grove Obituary

David Lee Grove, age 80, passed away Sunday January 10, 2021 at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital.

Born October 21, 1940 in Auburn Township to Samuel Elmise and Muriel (Black) Grove, he had been a Shelby resident for many years moving to Mansfield in 1995. David was a 1958 graduate of Shelby High School and Mansfield Business College. He began his 42 year career at the Shelby Insurance Co. as a programmer in 1960 and retired in 2002. He was a member of the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church. David loved growing , showing and judging roses for many years and was a member of the Kingwood Rose Society. Later in life, he started growing hostas and enjoyed collecting as many varieties as he could possibly fit into his gardens. 

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Alice (McDougal) Grove; son David A. (Missi) Grove of Bucyrus; daughter Angie Lehman of Shelby; two stepdaughters Dr. Dawne Slabach of Columbus and Jill Slabach of Sugarland, TX; six grandchildren Hannah (Josh) Grove Woods and their daughters Georgia and Eliza, Chloe Grove of Beaver Creek, OH, Kathy Lehman of Shelby, Elissa (Dan Koller) Snouffer of Mentor. OH, Erika (Derek) Antunes of Columbus and Drew Snouffer of St. Louis, MO and the mother of his children Charlotte Winely-Grove of Shelby; sister-in-law Florence Dickinson of Eugene, OR, brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Pat McDougal of Ooltewah, TN, brother in Law Donald Smith of Peralta, NM; numerous other relatives. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Gary Lehman; sister and brother-in-law Jeanne and Renie Stull; brother Roger Grove; four sisters-in-law June Grove, Hennetta Miller-Grove, Helen Gebert and Gene Smith.

As per David's wishes, no funeral services will be observed. Private family burial will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions are to be made to the Audio and Video Fund of the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church; 1040 West Cook Rd, Mansfield OH 44906.
