Dorothy Mae Moore, age 91, of Shelby entered into eternal life Sunday morning, September 19, 2021 at her home.
She was born February 4, 1930 in Oak Park, IL (suburb of Chicago) to the late Rev. Marinus John and Mamie Nellie (Vanden Bergh) Remein. She was a 1948 graduate of Northville High School (near Detroit, MI). Employments were at Pride Cleaners Store and the Montgomery Creamery, both in MI. When she relocated to Shelby she worked at the Shelby Mutual Insurance Group.
Dorothy liked to read and do puzzles, especially Sudoku and jigsaw. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and caring for her summer flowers. She was a self-taught accomplished pianist and organist, having been an organist at Shelby Trinity United Methodist Church for twenty-five years where she was an active member for over 50 years. Traveling and camping with family were memorable experiences. She always put her family and others first. Her favorite books were the Bible and hymnals. A favorite verse was I John 1:9 and favorite hymn was "Precious Lord, Take My Hand." Handel's "Messiah" was so meaningful to her. .
Her four grandparents with several of their children emigrated from the Netherlands and settled in Rochester, New York in the late 1800s.
She is survived by her children, Anne Marie Moore of Shiloh, Marilyn Moore of Shelby, Marvin (Debra) Moore of Radnor, Laureen (Paul) Bettac of Bellville; 7 grandchildren, Kathleen and Jacob Ramsey, Megan and Andrew Moore, Jessica (Ben) Solomon, Alyssa, and Erica Bettac, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, who passed away November 27, 2019, sister Eleanor Gleason, and brother Ted Remein.
Friends may call Wednesday September 22, 2021 from 11am to 1pm at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm; Dr. Rev Edna Stahl will officiate with interment held at Oakland Cemetery.
