Evelyn Jackson Obituary

Evelyn L. Jackson, age 83, died Sunday June 28, 2020 at her residence in Shelby.  

Born February 28, 1937 to Dr. Elmer L. and Hazel F. (Faringer) Jackson she was a 1955 graduate of Shelby High School and a lifelong Shelby resident.  After graduating from high school she went on to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Erie College in 1959, then completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from Frances Payne Boulton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University.

She was a nurse with University Hospital in Cleveland for eight years and then employed with Shelby Memorial Hospital for over twenty years, retiring in 1992.  While employed at Shelby Memorial Hospital, she held the positions of head nurse in the intensive care unit, vice president of nursing, and critical care coordinator.  

Evelyn enjoyed traveling extensively in Europe and around the United States and Canada.  She also enjoyed music, especially playing piano and participating in theatre. She was a very active member of the First Christian Church in Shelby where she played the organ, sang in the church choir, served as an elder and as chairman of the board and volunteered for many committees. She was also a member of the of the American Legion Auxiliary O'Brien Post # 326. Evelyn enjoyed her years with the Black Fork Players, participating in many musicals by singing and acting, serving as the rehearsal pianist and playing in the orchestra.

Survivors include her sister Ruth (Fred) Lape of Somerset, PA; one cousin Irene Hain of Lawrence, KS and brother-in-law Bruno Schirmacher of Shelby.  

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Schirmacher and special friend Sandra Fee.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Oakland Cemetery where Reverend James Robinson will officiate.  Calling hours will not be observed. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to First Christian Church, 81 E Main St, Shelby, OH 44875.
