Gary E. Clevenger

Gary E. Clevenger, age 77, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  

Born August 28, 1943 in Elliott County, KY to Garland and Virginia (Lanter) Clevenger, he had been a Shelby resident since 1967. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in The Naval Air Division stationed in Iceland, Newfoundland and Virginia Beach during the Vietnam War.  He was employed as a clerk with Ohio Steel Tube from 1967 to 1998. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the United steel workers Union and a patron member of Gamma Beta Charitable Organizations. 

Gary enjoyed camping, golfing, playing softball and riding bikes. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. 

Surviving are his wife Bobbie (Dean) Clevenger whom he married January 16, 1965; his daughter Jill Ann Fazekas  and husband Tom Foy of Lewis Center, OH; two grandchildren Grace and Garrett Fazekas; his mother Virginia Clevenger of Galion; one brother Clyde (Robin) Clevenger of OH; four sisters Charlotte (Larry) Oliver of Pickerington, OH, Diana (Ted) Baron of Waxhaw, NC., Jane (Joe) Quick of Bahama, NC and Margie (Randy) Laipply of Galion; sister in law Patti (Jim) Schaub of Shelby;  many nieces, nephews and cousins.  

In February of 1997 he was preceded in death by his father Garland Clevenger, who was one of 21 children. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 20, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby. Pastor Russel Yoak will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A live stream of the service will stream on the Barkdull Funeral Home FaceBook page for family and friends who are unable to attend. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Shelby First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway St, Shelby, OH 44875 or to the Charitable Fund of Gamma Beta Sorority.
