Georgie M. Kaber, age 91, died Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Ohio Health Hospital in Mansfield.
Born June 15, 1929 in Kane, Pennsylvania to Walter B. and Elma (Rea) Ishman, she was raised in Pennsylvania. She was a 1947 graduate of Kane High School, and married Donald E. Kaber on April 20, 1948. During the early years the family moved a few work related times to Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas, and took up residence in Ontario, Ohio from 1960 until 1998. She then moved to the Shelby Area. She was a homemaker and was employed with Lazarus Department Store for several years. Georgie was an active member of the Ontario United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
She enjoyed sports and looked forward to backyard family baseball games. She supported her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their many activities. Georgie loved playing games with everyone and would bring back new ones for all to learn with her "Florida rules". She faithfully watched the Tribe play baseball. She loved to bake and was known among family and friends for her awesome birthday and wedding cakes.
Georgie is survived by her children, Susan Simpkins of Shelby, Charles Kaber of Jamestown TN, Dick (Jill) Kaber of Ontario, David Kaber Shelby and Nancy (Carl) Metzger of Shelby; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald E. Kaber; son Dennis W. Kaber; two infant sons; two son-in-laws Dale McCollum and Dennis Simpkins; three sisters and brothers -in-law Genevieve (Don) Dixon, Edith (Martin) Geer and Lois (Ed) Geer and one brother and sister-in-law, Ben (Sarah) Ishman.
Friends may call Wednesday May 12, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Ontario United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the church. Pastor Chris Bell will officiate with interment in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby is assisting the family with arrangements.
