Gertrude A. "Gert" Windbigler, age 93, resident of Mansfield died, Monday, September 28, 2020.
Born June 11, 1927 in Mansfield, Ohio to Richard and Anna (Gruninger) Strolein, she was a lifelong Mansfield resident. A 1945 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School she was employed as a telegraph operator with Western Union. She married Harold Windbigler on July 9, 1949 and raised two children before returning to work. She also worked at Bressler's Ice Cream and retired from Walden's Book Store.
Gert was an avid bowler in her younger years and bowled a 300 game during league play. She was a Cub Scout leader and Den Mother. She enjoyed crafts and needlework, reading and taking vacations. She especially enjoyed spending time at Myrtle Beach with her sisters and their families.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Windbigler of Mansfield, one sister, Bette Barkdull of Shelby, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 2010, son, Gary Windbigler in 1996; sister, Elsie (Bob) Riley, brother-in-law Richard "Dick" Barkdull, and two nieces, Lesli Barkdull Neal and Stephanie King.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Friday, October 2, 2020 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM. Pastor James Robinson will officiate with interment held in Oak Grove Memorial Park in Lexington.
It is requested that those visiting, please be brief, practice appropriate social distancing and wear a mask. Those who have been experiencing any signs or symptoms of illness, please feel free to pay respects via mail or online condolence.
