Homer Wilson Obituary

Homer Jack Wilson age 85, of Ontario passed away March 10, 2018 following a brief illness.

Homer was born in Olive Hill, Kentucky August 24, 1932 to the late Robert and Myrtle (Holbrook) Wilson. Homer left the hills of Kentucky at the young age of 16, coming to Mansfield in search of work. Soon thereafter in early 1951 Homer Joined the U.S Marine Corps, proudly serving during the Korean War. Honorably discharged in 1954 Homer returned to Mansfield where he would make his home.

He had married Edna L (Metheney) Wilson having three children Cozetta Wilson, Nathan (Marijean) Wilson and Gary Wilson.

Homer worked as a professional truck driver with several trucking companies before retiring with Jones Transport after nearly 45 years and several million miles of safe service. After the death of his first wife Edna, Homer was fortunate to be blessed with another wonderful loving wife Irene (Lasceski) Wilson. Homer and Irene were inseparable while enjoying many of Homer's favorite past times; including traveling, to spend time with family and friends, enjoying the many activities and their special network of friends ( you know who you are) that were associated with their favorite clubs and casinos.

He may best be remembered as friendly, loyal, disciplined and maybe above all a little ornery. Although recognizing and serving fellow veterans was certainly a true passion of his. Homer was a founding member of his Ontario V.F.W Post #7651, later serving as Post Commander. In addition, he was a life member of V.F.W. Post #4329 in Galion, life member of the AMVETS Galion, American Legion Post #326 Shelby, Eagles FOE Post #763 of Shelby for 45 years, Owls club in Shelby and Galion, life member trackside of Galion and 422 Moose Lodge in Shelby.

Homer is survived by and will be deeply missed by his wife Irene Wilson; sons Nathan (Marijean) Wilson, Gary Wilson; sisters Mildred Sparks Stone and Betty Johnson Miller; special sister-in-law Lillie Mae Wilson; sister-in-laws Gloria Lasceski, Marie Lemanski, and Theresa (Leonard) Horetski; brother-in-laws Dave (Genevieve) Lasceski and Frank (Marie) Lasceski; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends to include his very special friend WWII Veteran Vance Hill.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Edna Wilson, daughter Cozetta Wilson, brothers Woodrow, Noah, Walter and  Robert Wilson Jr. ; sisters Lola , Grace and Christine Wilson, Maxine Gregory, Kathleen Blevins and Bessie Flannery Smith.
