James "Jim" Richard Haley, age 74, died Sunday, April 17, 2022 at The Good Shepherd in Ashland, Ohio.
Born December 22, 1947 in Marion, to John D. "Jack" and Dorothy (Bradshaw) Haley, Jim had been an area resident for the majority of his life. A 1966 graduate of Pleasant High School in Marion, he was a very proud veteran of the United States Navy. Jim had worked as a SeaBee with the construction unit and served two terms during the Vietnam War. Jim had attended the North Central State College and received an associates degree in risk management. He retired in 2004 after 30 years of working as an industrial safety consultant for the state of Ohio.
Jim was a very social and outgoing man. He enjoyed being with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. A great joke and story teller, Jim will be remembered for his fun loving personality. His hobbies included fishing, playing Rummy, listening to music, and dancing, especially the two-step with his wife. Jim was a member of various local clubs including the American Legion, O'Brien Post 326, Shelby VFW Post 4066, Fraternal Order of Eagles 763, Shelby Moose Lodge 422, and previous member of the Amvets Post 26 of Mansfield.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Diana (Adkins) Haley; children Christina "Chrissy" (Terry) Roop of Shelby, Joseph (Andrea) Haley of Gahanna, and Rebecca (Charles) Wing of Mayfield Heights; grandchildren Christian Haley, Savannah Haley, Gino Tierney, Jackson Wing; step-grandchildren Fin Cole, and Cheyanne Cole; siblings Gary (Rita) Haley of Florida, Charles "Pat" Haley of Virginia, and Douglas Haley of Mt. Gilead; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his infant brother Johnny Haley; brother Bill Haley; sister Doretta "Dee" O'Hara; brother Robert "Bob" Haley.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Americans Parkinson Disease Association at PO Box 61420 Staten Island, NY 10306.
Family and friends are invited to the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM for visitation. A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Friday from the funeral home. Pastor James Roberson will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
