James "Jim" C. Widdig, age 89, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. He was born March 16, 1931 in Portsmouth, OH. to James Edward and Lavada (Saunders) Widdig . He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School where he met his wife Mary Jo Stapleton, whom he married September 8, 1950. He was a veteran of Korean War serving with the U.S. Navy. Jim and Mary Jo moved to Shelby in the 1970's. He was then employed with Empire Steel as superintendent of the rod and wire department, retiring after 40 years of service. He continued his working years as co-owner/operator of Fore Services oil company.
Jim was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #48 of Portsmouth and the Shrine Club. He was a member and avid rider of the "Romeo's" Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife as well as fishing, golfing and woodworking.
He is survived by his three daughters, Diana Williams, Lynn (Stan) Bivens and Debbie Vournazos, all of Shelby; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mary Jo (Stapleton) Widdig, November 8, 2020; his son James C. Widdig, Jr. and one sister Betty Jean Ferguson.
Private family services will be held at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, W. VA. at a later date.
