Jan G. Fichter, age 83, resident of Mansfield, died Monday morning, April 26, 2021 after a brief illness.
Born March 9, 1938, in Shelby to Gail and Agnes (Verhoff) Fichter, he was a resident of Tennessee for 20 years before moving back to Shelby for retirement in 2001.
A 1956 graduate of Shelby High School, Jan had worked as a machinist and model maker at AMF for 13 years before working at National Seating until his retirement 2001 after 32 years. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Kroger in Tennessee.
Jan enjoyed watching the Tennessee Volunteers, NASCAR and rooting for Kyle Petty, and in earlier years participating in the Indian Guides with his son. Most of all he loved visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his four children Wendy Snyder, Penny Fichter, Russ Fichter and Shelly (Doug) Southard; four grandchildren, Ernie Dyer, Dane (Anne Marie) Fichter, Carli (Kyle) Bailey and Jaret Southard; three great-grandchildren Haley Dyer, Slayter Bailey and Roman Bailey; two sisters-in-law Linda Fichter and Linda McElhaney; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Jenny in 2015, and one brother Jerry Fichter in 2017.
Wearing comfy blue jeans, friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM. Private family funeral services will be held with Pastor James Robinson officiating.
