Janet R. Bloom

Janet Bloom, age 77, died peacefully at her daughter's home in Lewis Center on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born December 4, 1943 in Columbus to Byron Richmond and Beatrice (Rathburn) Wagoner, and had been a Shelby resident for 74 years. Janet was a 1961 graduate and Homecoming Queen of Shelby Senior High and later attended the North Central Technical College. She was a longtime employee of the Shelby City School System and served as the school librarian.

Janet was a lifelong active member of the First Lutheran Church. She served as Secretary for the Council of Churches and was a recipient of the Jess Rath Award. Janet was also a member of the Child Guidance League Mother's Club and was an active volunteer for numerous Shelby civic events and community outreach programs including Shelby Helpline Services. She enjoyed staying in close contact with her friends, especially those of the Class of 1961 "Boulevard Gang". Janet was faithful follower of the Shelby Whippets and a die hard Ohio State Buckeye football fan. While she thoroughly enjoyed helping her community, Janet's greatest pride was loving and being there for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two children, Daron Bloom of Reno NV, and Michele "Mitzi" (Joe) Devine of Lewis Center, OH; five grandchildren, Hailey Bloom, Katie, Erin, Megan, and Allison Devine. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Keith Bloom; her daughter Tikara "Tiki" Gunder and her brother Byron Wagoner, Jr.

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 1:00PM at the First Lutheran Church of Shelby. Pastor Russel Yoak will officiate with interment at Oakland Cemetery..
