Jeanne L Stroup Kemp

Jeanne L. Stroup Kemp, age 92 resident of Shelby died Sunday, October 31, 2021 at the Laurels of New London surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 12, 1929 in Shelby to Charles and Marie (Caskey) Roth, she was a lifelong Shelby resident and a 1947 graduate of Shelby High School. Following graduation, Jeanne had attended the Barbizon School of Modeling in New York City before working in the office at the Ohio Steel Tube. She then worked for twenty five years at Whitney and Dowds Elementary Schools in the cafeteria and had also been employed with Stevenson's Drug Store and Rite-Aid. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #17 of Mansfield, Canasta Card Club, and the Twig Benders Mother's Club. In 1946 she represented Shelby as Air Queen in the All-Ohio Air Tour. Jeanne enjoyed traveling, playing cards and being around friends and family.

Survivors include her children, Becky (Dick) Young, Larry (Toni) Stroup, Jim Stroup, Jodi Paterson, and daughter-in-law Karen Stroup, all of Shelby; thirteen grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; two step daughters, Ann Roberts and Vickie (Dave) Luster, all of Shelby; eight step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Janice Boyce of Conyers, Georgia; nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Stroup in 1989, her second husband, Harry Kemp in 2011, her son Tom Stroup in 2013 , three brothers, Robert Emery Roth, Charles "Bud" Roth, and Billy Roth and two sisters, Glaris Marie Linnean and Betty Farrell, two brothers-in-law Paul Stroup and Chuck Boyce, sister-in-law Margaret Stroup and step son-in-law Tom Roberts. 

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, November 4, 2021. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Father Chris Mileski of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery.
