Lowell Gayheart Obituary

Lowell W. Gayheart, age 82, of Shelby, OH died Thursday, February 15, 2024, at OhioHealth Shelby surrounded by family. He was welcomed into the arms of his savior, Jesus, reunited with deceased loved ones. He has found peace everlasting, joy unspeakable, and a transformed body full of glory. 

Born November 19, 1941, in Martin, Kentucky to Johnny and Gladys (Cooley) Gayheart, he was a resident of Shelby for over 57 years. Lowell worked as an electrician for General Motors for 32 years, before his retirement in 1996. A man of God, Lowell was ordained as a minister by the IPCC in 1981. He served alongside his dear friend Reverend Art Kennard, as assistant minister with the Maranatha Christian Center in Shelby for over 40 years. 

A member of the UAW, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, and restoring his classic antique cars. In his younger years, Lowell enjoyed playing basketball. He had become an avid Cleveland and Shelby Whippet sports fan and enjoyed rooting on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Survivors include his wife, of 60 years, Patricia (Foraker) Gayheart whom he wed July 19, 1963; three children, Christopher Gayheart of Mansfield, Monica (Dave) Myers of Shelby, and Denice (Paul) Ream of Willard; five grandchildren, Cory Shuster of Shelby, Kevin Shuster of Bellefontaine, Keith Shuster of Shelby, Eva (Curt) Phillips of Willard and Jessica Ream of Mansfield; two great grandsons Levi and Noah Phillips, as well as one on the way; one sister, Georgia (Ken) Barnett of Port Clinton; various nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Vaughn, Edward, Forest, and Roger Gayheart; sisters, Buncie Burdge, Harriette Saunders and Jacqueline Hoover; and one infant brother, Harry Gayheart. 

Friends may visit at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Monday, February 19, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. An additional hour of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday. A funeral service will immediately follow Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Reverend Art Kennard will officiate with interment held in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth.
