Madge Martin Obituary

Nina Madge (Ramey) Martin, age 96, resident of Shelby died Friday, October 20, 2023 in Walterboro, South Carolina.

Born August 28, 1927, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to Willie Wagoner and Stella Smith, she had been a Shelby resident the majority of her life. Madge was a proud mother and homemaker. She was a great cook.  She had a special knack for bean salad that became a holiday staple.  Madge loved her family and was a faithful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lover of animals across the board; she took care of many pets throughout her life. Feeding any that she could. Her little dog Chewy, cats Peewee and Willard are going to miss her severely.  Madge enjoyed country music and was a huge Elvis, George Jones and Tanya Tucker fan. Looking her best was important to Madge. She kept a standing appointment at the hair salon, every Thursday for 40 years. 22 of those were spent with Michelle. Madge loved flowers, gardening, canning, visiting local Amish shops and was a collector of many trinkets.  There will never be enough kind words to say about Madge. She would give the shirt off her back to help someone out.

Survivors include her children, Junior (Violet) Wagoner of Shelby, Lester H. (Brenda) Ramey of Galion, Julie Ann (Louis) Page of Cincinnati, Roger Ramey of Mansfield, Donald "Duke" Ramey of Mansfield, Randy Ramey of Greenwich, and Richard "Ricky" Ramey of Salt Lick, Kentucky; her granddaughter whom she considered her daughter, Stephanie Bowman. A brother, Willie (Novenda) Wagoner of Morehead, KY; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives. She had a special place in her heart for her grandsons Jimmy and Maysen and great granddaughter, Harper. Madge re-married later in life and acquired many friends throughout the 9 years they spent together

In addition to her parents, Madge suffered the loss of her son Bobby Wagoner; an infant baby boy Dale Wagoner; a brother and 4 sisters.  Her beloved husband of 58 and true love of her life, Lester Ramey whom she married August 26, 1951. It was said that they had the “Cadillac of Love”.
