Obituary

Marcella T. "Toots" Ensman, age 96, resident of Shelby, died Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Crestwood Care Center.

Born March 28, 1927 to John E. and Anna (Peter) Gosser, she had been a lifelong Shelby area resident. Marcella attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, St. Mary's school, and was a 1945 graduate of Shelby High School. On February 23, 1952, she married Jerome "Jerry" Ensman who preceded her in death on November 20, 2008. At one time, Jerry and Toots were avid bowlers and she loved telling family stories of her bowling years. She especially liked to play double deck pinochle with her family, which she would play with her father and siblings, then later with her nieces and nephews. Family gatherings of all kinds were very important to Toots, she loved when everybody would gather together at her home, filling it with love and laughter for hours on end.

She was employed with the former Wilkins Air Force Depot, Shelby Metal Products, and retired from the Ohio Steel Tube Co. in 1982 after 26 years of service.

A devout Catholic, Toots was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary Society, and enjoyed assisting seminarians. Recently, she was able to spend some time with the Bishop which meant a lot to her. She was also a member of the OST Retirees and enjoyed volunteering for various organizations which included her church, the American Red Cross Blood Mobiles and Highway Safety Breaks. She also loved spending time with her faithful K-9 companions.

Toots is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; two sister-in-laws Carol Ensman and Rosie Yosick, and several Godchildren whom she loved deeply.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis Gosser, John Gosser Jr, and Howard Gosser, and three sisters, Genevieve Black, Mary Catherine Sands, and Martha Hutchison.

Visitation for family and friends will take place on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. with a Rosary Service at 6:45 p.m. lead by her nephew, Deacon Jim Black.
