Margaret Catherine Bertke, age 98, died on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at the Elmcroft Ontario.
Born November 8, 1923 in Bethlehem, Ohio to Henry and Rosella (Nelson) Biglin she had been a Shelby area resident the majority of her life. A 1941 graduate of Shelby High School, she was a former employee of the Timken Co. in Bucyrus, retiring in 1988.
Margaret was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church as well as the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved baking and was well known for her pies. She enjoyed quilting and doing many different crafts.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Judy) Bertke, and Tom (Toni) Bertke, all of Shelby: two daughters, Mary Lou (Doug) Wright of Lima, and Sally (Richard) Shuler of Shelby; seven granddaughters, eleven great-grandchildren: six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Biglin of Shelby, and Francis Biglin of Crestline; two sisters, Virginia Steiner of Mansfield, and Alice Metzger of Bethlehem; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death in 1966 by her husband, Vero Bertke, whom she married December 5, 1942, infant twins, James and Jean Bertke in 1959; one brother, Howard Biglin; two sisters, Rosemary Bertke and Eileen Huggins; three brother-in-law's, Linus Bertke, Leroy Steiner, and John Metzger; three sister-in-law's, Mary Biglin, Mary Alice Biglin, and Marie Biglin.
Friends and family may call from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. A wake service will follow at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery.
