Mary C Yetzer

Mary Catherine Yetzer, age 94, resident of Shelby died peacefully Sunday, July 24, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

Born November 20, 1927 to Anthony and Marie (Miller) Kohls in Galion, she had been a Shelby resident for the last 72 years. Mary was a 1945 graduate of Galion High School. She attended the Mount Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1949. Mary was employed at various area hospitals including Crestline Hospital and Shelby Memorial Hospital and was passionate about her career. She also worked at Pioneer Vocational School and Sluss Realty. 

Mary was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and crocheting. Mary crocheted over 41 afghans. She found joy in growing and taking care of her plants and flowers. She was an avid card player and played many rounds of euchre. Mary liked traveling and taking vacations. She loved interacting with all her family members. Mary lived a full and happy life. She married Harold L. "Smiley " Yetzer on June 16, 1951, and they had 10 children and created a wonderful life together. 

She is survived by her children, Allen (Susan) Yetzer of Shelby, Paul (Betty) Yetzer of Galion, Stephen (Debbie Kenyon) Yetzer of Port St. Lucie, FL, Theresa Coovert of Shelby, Gregory Yetzer, Ruth (John) Donnersbach of Urbana, Jeanne (Daniel) Coovert of Ashland, Edward (Julie) Yetzer of Ashland and Kenneth (Beth) Yetzer of Maryland; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in 2016; son, Anthony Yetzer; grandson Eric Yetzer.

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM where a tribute to her nursing years will follow at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment held in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 29 West St. in Shelby.
