Maurice Leroy Bloom, age 97, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 at his home.
Born March 27, 1923 in Shelby to John Hummel and Viva (Pittenger) Bloom, he was a lifelong Shelby resident. A 1941 graduate of Shelby High School, he was employed at Bourgeois Pontiac as a car salesman from 1947 to 1964 then became co-owner/operator of Bloom & Johnson's Auto Sales and Body Shop from 1964 to 1993. Maury was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps who served during WWII. He enjoyed golfing, cars and riding his motorcycle. Above all he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by four children: Sherry (Fred) Bloom Roth of Pittsburgh, PA, John (Connie) Bloom of Shelby, Linda (Mel) Todd of Cambridge, OH and Nancy Lawrence of Shelby; four grandchildren, Jay Bloom (Jesse Cole) of Shelby, Brandon (Tessa) Lawrence of Delaware, OH, Jeremy (Valerie) Bloom of Carlisle, IL, and Susan (Nick) Lewandowski of Pittsburgh, PA; four great grandchildren Donovan and Jaxon Bloom, Cailen and Grayson Lawrence as well as numerous friends and other relatives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 75 years, Shirley Bloom three years to the exact day in 2018.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A private family funeral service will take place 1:00 PM Thursday with live streamed services via Barkdull Funeral Home's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BarkdullFH. Reverend James Robinson from the First United Church of Christ will officiate.
