Perry S. Smith, age 60 went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday evening, June 29, 2019.
Born March 30, 1959 in Shelby to Ralph T. and Alberta (Wallace) Smith, he had been a life long Shelby resident. He was a 1977 graduate of Shelby High School and Pioneer Career & Technology Center Auto Mechanics program. Perry was a veteran of the United States Army and had for the Mansfield Correctional Institute as a correctional officer for 13 years before driving semi truck for 4 years.
Perry had attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby and had helped with numerous projects.
He had enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, working on small engines and was a jack of all trades. Above all he loved the time he spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his two daughters, Crystal Franklin of Three Rivers, MI, Caressa Smith of Grayson, KY, six grandchildren Andre's Cruz, Davon Cruz, Jayden Kelley, Jayce Kelley, Kayonna Franklin, Kevin Franklin; four siblings James Smith of Shelby, Peggy (Carl) Moyer of Shelby, Anthony (Tammy) Smith of Shelby, Clarence (Christy) Smith of Plymouth; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ralph E. Smith in 2000.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2019. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. Pastor Steven Schag will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the form of donation to the family to offset funeral costs.
