Rebecca Jane Jergens, age 74, of Shelby died Thursday, November 4, 2021 at OhioHealth Mansfield following a brief illness.
Born July 23, 1947 in Columbus to the late Joseph and Helen (Van Pelt) Korns, she had been a resident of Shelby since 1978 when she moved from Kenton. Rebecca was a 1965 graduate of New Philadelphia High School before graduating from Kent State with a degree in nursing in 1972. She then worked as a nurse in various nursing facilities and hospitals for 43 years. Rebecca enjoyed family beach vacations in Virginia and Myrtle Beach, needle point, cross stitch, cooking, and reading mystery novels.
Survivors include a son, Josh (Leslie) Jergens of Shelby; sister, Sarah Korns of Shelby; sister-in-law, Sally (Tim) Barnett of Zanesville; nieces, Rachael (Jace) Hartzler of Hilliard, and Elizabeth (Josh) Renner of New Philadelphia; nephews, Tyler (Cortney) Korns of Reynoldsburg, and Jamal (Kaylee Schweitzer) Johnson of Dover; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Issac Jergens; and great-nieces and nephews, Owen, Olivia, and Aries Hartzler, Jaxson, Carter, and Madison Renner, and Elijah, Landon, and Asher Korns; special friends Phillip & Eloise Barnett and Jackie Barnett.
In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Jergens in 1994; a brother, David Korns, and an infant brother, Joseph Korns.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church, 24 N Gamble St, Shelby, OH 44875.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dave Korns Memorial Scholarship in care of the Quaker Foundation at 124 N Broadway St. New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
