Dr. Richard Lee Berry, age 77, resident of Columbus, died Friday, May 7, 2021 in his home.
Born July 28, 1942, in Shelby to Dorwin James and Norma Clare (Laux) Berry, he had been a Shelby resident, moving to Columbus in 1966. He was a 1960 graduate of Shelby High School, and the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. Richard then attended Tulane University graduating with a M.S. in Parasitology and later received his P.H.D. in Entomology from the Ohio State University. Mr. Berry was employed with the Ohio Department of Health for 32 years, where he was the chief of the Vector-Borne Disease Program. A member of St. Timothy Parrish in Columbus, he enjoyed insect studies, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include; his wife of 56 years, Constance A. (Horner) Berry whom he wed August 29, 1964; two sons, Richard Everett (Ellen) Berry of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland and Craig Thomas (Terri) Berry of Columbus; one grandson, Nicholas Berry of Chesapeake Beach Maryland; two brothers, James Berry of Palm Springs, California and William Berry of South Bend, Indiana; one sister, Sister Ruth Ann Berry of Goiania, Brazil; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dorwin Berry, Jr. and one sister Jeanne Berry.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 29 West St, Shelby, OH 44875 at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 5, 2021. Father Chris Mileski officiating.
