Robert L Boor

Robert L. Boor, age 95, resident of Shelby died Saturday, December 19, 2020 peacefully at his home. Born March 2, 1925 in Shelby to Mason Howard and Mary Catherine (England) Boor, he had been a lifelong Shelby resident. He was a 1943 graduate of Shelby High School. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Europe during WWII and had received the Purple Heart Medal. 

 Robert was employed as a mason for ten years with Stacey Haun Builders and then became a union bricklayer working for over fifty years. He was a very talented bricklayer working on numerous local churches, schools and the new Shelby Mutual Building. He also helped many Shelby families with their personal projects. He was proud of his house that he had built and lived in for the past 60 years.    

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayer and Allied Craft Workers.  

Though masonry was his main passion he also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and being outdoors. 

He is survived by three sons, Martin Boor and Joanne, Steve Boor and Ron Boor, all of Shelby; two daughters, Barbara Lawson of Shelby and Norma (Ronald) Morelli of West Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Brad Smith, Michelle (Bruce) Briggs, Jonathan Lawson, Jennifer (James) Sexton, Justin (Amanda) Boor, Jessica (Topher) White, Cassandra (Will) Branan and Antonio Morelli; numerous great grandchildren, one sister Martha Jean Smith, Monroeville, OH.; nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Ellen Boor on December 9, 2019; his siblings, Doris Taylor, Ramona Crall, Grayson Boor, Joy Longnecker, Miriam Daup, Gerald Boor, Eugene Boor, Elsie Cline, Salo Boor and infant brother John Boor.    

Private graveside services will be held Tuesday December 22, 2020 in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby.  Pastor Russel Yoak will officiate. The Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
