Robert C. "Pee Wee" Hoover, age 88 died Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital.
Born October 10, 1932 to Carl and Susan (Shade) Hoover in Shelby. He has been a lifelong resident of Shelby.
A 1950 graduate of Shelby High School, he played as a guard for the Whippets football team. During high school he was employed with Hodges Coal and Supply. He also worked at his father's cement block factory. Robert served in the Navy Reserve. He retired from Ohio Steel Tube in 1991 after 48 years of service. For a short time Robert also worked at Westinghouse in conjunction with his job at "The Tuby". He was also a lifelong farmer.
Robert loved to read and enjoyed spending time at Lake Erie. He was a member of the Shelby Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Shelby American Legion Post 326.
He is survived by his longtime life partner Bonnie Slone of Shelby; three daughters Becky Sue (Russell) Ernsberger of Little Elm, Texas, Bobbi Lynn (David) Richer of Santo, Texas; daughter Kelly Gross of Shelby; one son Barry Gross of Worthington, Ohio; grandchildren Brian (Lynn) Ernsbrger, Casey (Russell) Tripp, Shawn (Lauren) Richer, Jason (Xandra) Richer, Adam (Jennifer) Gaver, Jeffrey Bilka, and Andrew (Jessie) Bilka; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers David (Garnett) Hoover of Shelby, Jacque (Judy) Hoover of Shelby; sister-in-law Margie Hoover of Shelby; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and his special friends Rick and Bev Johnston, Al Frangella and Bruce Kehres.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Maxine (George) Cole; one brother Dean (Lois) Hoover; one granddaughter Mikki Ernsberger and one son-in-law James Bilka.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory Thursday September 2, 2021 from 12:00 PM- 2:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor Russel Yoak officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
