Robert J. Hubert, age 88, resident of Shelby died Thursday February 11, 2021 at Ohio Health Shelby Hospital.
Born December 31, 1932 in Toledo to Irving and Fern (Cowper) Hubert he had been a Shelby resident since 1958. He was a graduate of Bowling Green University and received his masters degree from Ohio State University. Robert had taught Industrial Arts at Shelby High School and later at Ontario High School retiring in 1985. Robert was a veteran of the US Army and had achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Johnny Appleseed Wood Carvers, and the NRA. He had served as committeeman with Boy Scout Troop 406 and 403 and was Scoutmaster with the Explorer Post. Bob was very involved with Habitat for Humanity and was very proud of the houses that he helped build. Because of his involvement with his community and church, he along with his wife Kathryn, had received the Jess Rath award. He also assisted as a volunteer with Shelby Help Line. Bob enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, camping and target shooting. However, his family was of utmost importance to him, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Daniel (Wanda) Hubert of Shelby; two daughters, Jennifer (Fred) Furr of Greenwich and Julie Hubert Myers and Dave Dobbins of Shelby; six grandchildren, Daniel J. (Kim) Hubert, Valerie (Brian) Lehman, David (Mindy) Hubert, Neil (Amber) Furr, Kathryn (Donald) Davies, Rose Furr and Fred Lohmann, Jr.; fourteen great-grandchildren, Meagan, Austin, Adam, Kristin, Macey, Lillian, Samantha, Mia, Malina, Gracie, Cora, Millie, Ellie and Mollee; nieces, nephews,and his four legged friends, Gabe, Grayson and Romeo.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Kathryn A. Hubert, great grandson David Daniel Hubert; two sisters, Dorothy Long and Louise Walker and one brother, William Hubert.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday February 13, 2021 from the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Dr. John Jordan will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery.
