Ruth Elaine Pittenger

Ruth Elaine Pittenger, 86, of Shelby, Ohio passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, in Dublin, Ohio. 

Born August 23, 1937, in Shelby, Ohio to Chauncey M. and Beatrice E. Tullis, Ruth resided in Shelby nearly her entire life and loved the city. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1955 and attended Tiffin University. Ruth was employed for many years at the First National Bank of Shelby and, in retirement, at Marvin Memorial Library. Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby. For many years, she enjoyed square dancing with the Shelby Cloverleaf Square Dance Club with her husband Russ. She was a voracious reader and a talented painter, seamstress and quilter, creating many beautiful quilts. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Shelby Senior Center. 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Janet (Schreck) and Mickey Hawk of Powell, Ohio, her son and daughter-in-law Charles Edward and Agnès Schreck of Viroflay, France, her cousin Mary Lee (Bill) Gibson of Shelby, her dear friend Francis Biglin and the Biglin family of Crestline, and many other friends and relatives. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands Charles Reed Schreck in 1977 and Russell D. Pittenger in 1997, her parents, her brothers Robert E. Tullis and Herbert D. Tullis, and two sisters-in-law Marilyn Tullis and Patricia Tullis. 

Friends may visit the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, Friday, April 5, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 1:30 PM. Pastor James Robinson will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery.
