Shirley Jean Cole age 71, resident of Crestline died Friday, November 23, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 6, 1947 in Shelby to James and Eva Mae (Jenkins) Cattey, she had been a Shelby resident before moving to Crestline in 1974. A 1965 Shelby High School graduate, Shirley had worked at AMF as a secretary for many years before leaving to become a homemaker, farmer, mother, and later a grandmother. A member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Alter Society, She had previously been a Crawford County 4H leader for numerous years. She spent countless hours working next to her husband on the family farm and being a stay at home Mother to her children and grandchildren was her greatest accomplishment and what brought her the most joy.
Shirley had enjoyed sewing, baking, oil painting and acrylic craft painting. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Anyone who was able to call her family or friend was blessed. To know her was a blessing and to be loved by her was a gift.
She is survived by her husband James Cole, whom she wed September 13, 1969; three daughters Heather (Thomas) Shimko of Warren, OH, Holly (Thomas) Platfoot of Botkins, OH and Melissa (Kenneth) Miller of Crestline; nine grandchildren Mason Burge, Preston Shimko, Janel Platfoot, Peyton Platfoot, Caden Platfoot, Kylee Bloomfield, Hunter Bloomfield, Rylee Bloomfield and Kenlee Miller; Mother Eva Mae Cattey of Shelby; sister Ginny (Ron) Rounsevell of Shelby; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father James Cattey and grandson Cole Michael Platfoot.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Father Chris Mileski will officiate.
