William Junior Swanger, age 89, resident of Shelby fought the good fight and finished the race that God called him to, on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Optimized Senior Living in Lebanon, Ohio.
Born May 14, 1932 in Tiro to William Kessler and Grace (Gutchall) Swanger he had been a Shelby resident the majority of his life.
A 1950 graduate of Shelby High School he was formerly employed with Ohio Steel Tube Co. retiring in 1993 after forty eight years of service. He member of the Shelby Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. Bill was an avid Ohio sports fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his two sons, James E. (Denise) Swanger of Crestline and Timothy A. (Karyn) Swanger of Cincinnati; two daughters Debra K. (Ernie) Sallee of Shelby and Lynn M. and (Ed) Friebel of Shelby; six grandchildren Brandi (Chad) Jensen, Dustin (Jessie) Sallee, Hunter (Paige) Swanger, Courtney, Austin and Connor Swanger; four step-grandchildren Sharri (Jim) Patrick, Chad (Shelia) Sallee, Aarika Friebel and Bryson Friebel; great-grandchildren Lauren Jensen, Heath Jensen, Tristan Sallee, Landen Sallee, and Dixie Swanger; five step great-grandchildren Josh Patrick, Rachel (Jordan) Gilbert, Sierra (Sam) Worcester, Hunter (Josh) Gibson, Casey Sallee; three step-great-great-grandchildren Scarlett, Scotlynn Worcester and Ezra Gilbert; one brother , Glenn Swanger; one sister Elsie Sheperd both of Shelby; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lucille whom he married in 1954, three brothers, Frank, Kenneth, and Don Swanger and four sisters, Helen Lybarger, Gladys Ewing, Millie Pugh and Beatrice Baker.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. The family asks that those attending wear their favorite sports team attire. Funeral services will immediately follow from the funeral home at 5:00 PM with Chad Guined officiating.
