James Virgil Bowman

James Virgil "Pappy" Bowman, age 84, of Shelby died Monday June 13, 2016 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Born May 17, 1932 in Morehead KY he was the son of Edd and Goldie (McClure) Bowman.  He was a retired employee of ArcelorMittal and was a veteran of US Army serving during the Korean War.

James was a member of the Church of God, Hannah Rd. in Mansfield. He had a great passion for working on cars, enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially his trip to Israel.

He is survived by his wife Janice (Hall) Bowman, whom he wed March 18, 1967; three brothers, Eugene Bowman of Shiloh, Edd Jr (Betty) Bowman of Taylor, MI, and Gary (Patti) Bowman of Shelby; three sisters Ella (Robert) Campbell of Florida, Christine (Peter) Anderson of Shelby and Geraldine Roberts of Shelby.

James was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Bowman and two brothers, Marvin and Carl Bowman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday June 17, 2016 from the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Pastors Floyd Scaggs and Ferlie Yates will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
