Homer Hall, age 97, resident of Crestline died Saturday June 11, 2016 in Crestwood Care Center.

Born May 19, 1919 in Clearfield, KY to Perry A. and Hessie R. (Lewis) Hall he moved to Shelby in 1927.  He was employed at the Autocall for 43 years, retiring in 1983.  Homer was veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was present at the signing of the surrender of Japan and was then deployed with the U.S. infantry with the occupation of Japan. Following his discharge he was an active volunteer with the Disabled American Veterans Association.  

He was a member of the American Legion Post #326, the Bucyrus AMVETS Post #26 and the Shelby Eagles and Owls Club. He was a life member of the VFW Post #291 where he had served as past Commander. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, golfing and was an avid gardener.

Survivors include his one daughter Mary Shepherd of Shelby; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three stepsons Tim (Linda) Temple of Chatfield; Terry (Cathy) Temple of Crestline and Michael Temple of Clyde; two stepdaughters Charlene (David) Zaebst of Tiro and Marlene (Steve) Johnson of Delaware, OH; one brother Perry (Lois) Hall of Shelby; four sisters Helen (Kent) Eyler, Virginia Albright all of Shelby, Beulah "Boots" Ream of Mansfield; Lois (James) Miller of Clarksville, TN, and Lucille Van Loo of Plymouth; nieces, nephews; one son-in-law Richard Shepherd and other relatives.  

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Eleanore (Zwerman) Hall; son David A. Hall in 1963; his daughter Nancy Shepherd in 2001;  brother Robert Hall in 1994; sister, Pauline Markwell; two infant brothers, one infant sister; infant great granddaughter Aubrey Shepherd; two stepsons and one stepdaughter; and son-in-law Grady Shepherd. 

Graveside services will be held 12:00PM Wednesday June 15, 2016 in Tiro Oakland Cemetery. Deacon Steve Keller will officiate. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:45 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial expressions may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association; 34 Park Ave. W. Mansfield, Ohio 44902.
